Healthy life is shrinking. Pension ages are rising. That gap matters.
New data from the Office for National Statistics shows healthy life expectancy in the UK has dropped to its lowest level on record.
Men can now expect about 60.7 healthy years and women 60.9 — both down sharply since before the pandemic.
At the same time, the state pension age is moving in the opposite direction — climbing toward 67 by 2028, with further increases under review.
That creates a growing risk:
➡️ More years unwell
➡️ Fewer years financially supported
➡️ Greater pressure on personal savings
This is exactly why lifetime cash-flow planning is no longer optional. It’s essential.
Planning purely for retirement age is outdated. Planning for health span, work flexibility, and income resilience is the new standard.
Because the real question is no longer
“When will you retire?”
It’s “How will you live well — whatever happens?”
